However, chrome plating applied by electrolytic treatment is also easily damaged and requires electrolytic stripping to remove it, which leaves the wheel surface rattled, while spatter plating, which is just painted on the wheel surface, is easy to remove and re-plating is also easy to do. Another feature is that unlike chrome plating, which cannot change shades of colour, spatter plating can change shades of colour with the base coating, making it possible to produce plating with a blackish tint.

Both chrome and spatter require frequent maintenance and must be washed before brake dust sticks to them, otherwise they will soon become dull and scratched, causing the plating to crack and peel.

The trick is to wash it by hand gently with a special cleaner for plating and a soft sponge, as scrubbing it with dust or sand at this time will scratch it and the scratches will also stand out better because of the plating. If you don't wash them without scratching them and keep them shiny, they tend to look sloppy.

In order to keep the shine for as long as possible, it is of course important to wash the wheels frequently, but it is also advisable to use a commercially available coating for plated wheels to make them easier to clean with water.
